Tailgating Tip: How to Roast Beef for a Roast Beef Sandwich

Beef for Roast Beef Sandwich

What’s the best roast beef? What makes it perfect? It’s that you sliced the roast beef at home, from a Certified Angus Beef roast you cooked. Nothing compares to the taste of a fresh roast beef sandwich.

Don’t be intimated by the thought of cooking a beef roast. It’s easy enough for even a beginner to do. The term roast beef typically refers to a beef roast that has been cooked in the oven.

The key to tender and tasty roast beef is plenty of marbling. That’s why I look for the Certified Angus Beef brand. It is the best roast beef for slicing.

The best roast beef for a sandwich is a lean cut like a top loin roast or round roast. Any deli-style roast beef recipe should work well if you follow these tips.

What cut of beef is best for roast beef sandwiches?

For the best roast beef sandwiches, look for a round roast. Cuts from a round roast have the right texture and it’s easy to cut large round slices that are perfect for sandwiches.

To roast your round roast perfectly, heat the oven to 500F. Cook for 5 minutes per pound. Turn off the oven. Do NOT open the oven for two hours.

This Herb Rubbed Top Round Roast is the perfect way to cook a roast for this roast beef sandwich. If you’d like to try smaller sandwiches for your guests, these Grilled Sirloin Mini Sandwiches sound amazing too. They are a great choice for those that like to serve a variety of finger foods at their tailgating parties.

What do you put on a roast beef sandwich?

It all depends on your taste preferences! You can add a bit of gravy or juice from the roasting pan, or you can add a creamy horseradish spread

Or, try mayonnaise or chili sauce. And, of course, you will want to add lettuce, tomato, and possibly onion. Love cheese? How about a slice of avocado?

What cheese goes on a roast beef sandwich?

It’s totally up to you what cheese you add to this sandwich. I like American and Swiss. My husband is partial to Cheddar and Provolone.

Or, why not put one slice on the bottom and one on the top? And, why not try it grilled for something different.

Tailgating essentials

Make sure that you stock up on tailgating essentials for your football party. You’ll want plenty of potato chips, finger foods, ice-cold soda, and sweet tea.

Why not get a vegetable and fruit platter just to add a few healthy options to your party.

  1. I'm not that confident making a meat dish since I was a vegan and vegetarian for so many years. Getting an Instant Pot changed all that though and it's really helping me try new meat recipes. I'm still not a big meat eater myself but now I stop and read meat posts like these! I want to be able to prep a nice meat dish for company or family, so these beef tips help.
