Are you wondering if you can improve oral health as you age? I realize now that I’m older that I should have paid much more atten6tion to my oral health when I was younger. If you’re like me, you probably wish you had paid more attention to your parents and the dentist when they told you how important it was. While you can’t turn back the hands of time, you can start paying more attention to it today.

Improve Oral Health, One Habit at a Time

It’s always possible to improve oral health habits, no matter what age you are. Your oral health can impact far more than your smile which is why it’s so important to follow these simple tips as part of your oral health routine.

Regular dental visits

You may think that as you age, you no longer need to keep regular dental visits but you’re wrong. It’s important to have regular cleanings and check-ups. Your dentist may notice cracks or potential problems that you have missed. Catching them early can stop further damage. If you have diabetes, be aware that you are more prone to gum disease which makes oral care even more important for you.

Brush regularly

As you age, you may notice that your gums have receded or are more inflamed or sensitive than when you were younger. Exposed areas of your teeth from gum recession are softer and prone to decay more quickly. If you have missing teeth, this is a prime area for food to collect and cause decay. The CrissCross Toothbrush from Oral B removes up to 90% of plaque when you brush.

Remember to floss

Brushing just cannot remove all of the plaque from your teeth. That’s why it’s important to remember to floss regularly. Flossing gently stimulates gums and helps prevent gingivitis as part of a complete dental plan.

Use a fluoride toothpaste

Don’t think that cavities are just for children. You can get cavities just as easily at 55 as you can at 15. Be sure that you brush with a toothpaste that contains fluoride to protect against future tooth decay.

Easier brushing

As you age, you may find it easier to brush with an electric toothbrush rather than a manual one. The Oral-B PROAdvantage removes up to 100% more plaque compared to a manual toothbrush. Remember to change the brush heads regularly.

A whiter smile

I don’t know about you, but I feel more confident when I feel attractive and that means I love a whiter smile when I smile. Did you know research has shown that more than 80% of adults say the first thing they notice about others is their smile? You can get a whiter smile with Crest 3D White Brilliance Whitening Mouthwash. It’s both alcohol and peroxide free.
