Do you find it difficult to swallow pills? I know I do. My husband has no problems taking pills – even multiple pills at one time. But, I just can’t do it. Even average sized pills can be difficult for me to swallow, which makes it a challenge for me when I need to take medication or supplements. Since I take a variety of different supplements each day, I’ve been trying to find ways to make the process a little bit easier.

Help Swallowing Pills

I’ve heard that as many as 40% of Americans have difficulty swallowing pills even though they have no problem swallowing food. Some people don’t like the feeling of the pill in their throat. Other people don’t like the aftertaste that often comes with taking some pills. Some people even gag when they try to take pills.

There are numerous reasons why people have problems swallowing pills are numerous. For some, it’s a problem with GERD or acid reflux. Others have a hyper sensitive gag reflex that makes the process more difficult.

Relax Your Throat

Since pills tend to be more solid than food, relaxing the throat muscles may help some people swallow more easily. For me, it doesn’t help, so I’ve been searching for ways to make the process easier.

Special Cups

Some drug stores sell special cups to help people swallow pills more easily. You fill the cup with water and place the pill in a special reservoir. When you drink from the cup, the liquid and the pill mix in your mouth and it’s easier to swallow.

Gummies

My preference is to take as many of my pills and supplements as possible in gummy form. It’s much easier for me to chew a gummy than to try to swallow a large pill. I was thrilled when I found out that Osteo Bi-Flex® came out with a product in a gummy form to help support joint function.* I’ve been taking Osteo Bi-Flex®Joint Formula Pomegranate Grape gummies each morning, and I find it much easier than swallowing a pill. Now, I no longer experience the discomfort of swallowing a pill and they are delicious too!

Smaller Pills

If you want to stick with pills, but still have concerns about their size, there are some great solutions for you. Some brands, like Osteo Bi-Flex®, offer pills in a smaller size to make it easier for people to take. The latest in the Osteo Bi-Flex® joint care line is their EASE supplement. Osteo Bi-Flex® EASE is a mini-tab that is 80% smaller (compared to Osteo Bi-Flex® One per Day tablet) and free of shellfish and gluten. One mini-tab a day supplies Joint Shield™, an herbal ingredient that helps with occasional joint flare-ups and is a natural source of collagen called UC-II® that’s been shown to improve joint comfort.*† Osteo Bi-Flex® is available in EASE and the EASE Starter Pack, a 7-day trial pack that’s shown to improve joint comfort in 7-days*.

Taking supplements to support my health is important to me. It’s just another way I can feel my best, like getting enough sleep, choosing healthy foods and remembering to move each day. I’ve started taking Osteo Bi-Flex®, so I can continue to do the things I love with joint support on my side* – now I can do that easier too, thanks to their gummies and smaller pills.
