Healthy Homemade Snack Mix and Tips for Healthy Snacking

Healthy Homemade Snack Mix

The holidays are finally over and my routine is starting to return to normal. I’ll admit that I splurged on a few too many Christmas cookies the past few months. Now that the holidays are past, I’m focusing more on what I eat, and I wanted to share a few tips for healthy snacking with you.

One of the best tips I have for healthy snacking is not to bring junk food into the house. I know it’s a challenge when you’re shopping for people other than you.

But, when possible don’t bring your weaknesses into the house. My husband loves to snack, so when I buy him snacks that I prefer not to eat, I choose my least favorite options.

If you’re only shopping for yourself, the process is much simpler.

Another suggestion that really works for me is to have the snacks ready to go when you want them. I keep single-serve containers with cut-up vegetable sticks and fruit prepared in the refrigerator.

So, when I’m hungry, I can just grab a container. I don’t have to worry about washing, paring, or cutting what I want at that time. I really love these containers.

Since limiting servings can make such a big difference when it comes to healthy snacking, I always make sure that I have single servings packaged and ready to go. It can get confusing when it comes to how much is a serving for each snack.

What I tend to do is to make up snack-size plastic bags of snacks and keep them in the cupboard so they’re ready when I want them. This healthy homemade snack mix is one of my favorites.
