Hot Chocolate Coffee with Cinnamon

I love holiday drinks, but the ones at the coffee shop don’t tend to be all that healthy, not to mention the fact that they cost so much more than what I could make at home.

I started with delicious Folgers Gourmet Selections coffee. Folgers Gourmet Selections coffee is available in bagged coffee and K-Cup® pods and offers a wide variety of roasts and flavors to provide a gourmet experience any time of day, all from the comfort of home.

What is hot chocolate and coffee mixed together called?

Mocha cafe is the correct term for a mixture of hot chocolate and coffee. A mochaccino is a combination of chocolate and espresso.

If you’ve ever had a Mocha Chino (or mochaccino)  before, you’ll recognize that this recipe is sort of a combination of Mexican Hot Chocolate and coffee. It has all the delicious chocolate yumminess you’ll find in hot chocolate along with that caffeine kick from the coffee and a hint of cinnamon that is traditional in Mexican hot chocolate.

What is the best coffee to mix with hot chocolate?

I love that Folgers Gourmet Selections coffee is available in different varieties. Everyone loves flavored coffees over the holidays and it’s nice to be able to offer guests the option of Coconut Cream or Caramel Drizzle in addition to Lively Columbian (my personal favorite) or Morning Cafe. My daughter fell in love with the Vanilla Biscotti so I know that one will be with us year-round.

Of course, if you don’t have a Keurig, you can simply start with traditional ground coffee. I use a pour-over to make a pot when I’m having more than one cup.

Ideally, you want unflavored coffee to mix with your hot chocolate coffee. This way, the true taste of chocolate and cinnamon will shine through. But, it would be just as good with French vanilla.

How do you steam milk?

The easiest way to steam milk is with a steamer or frother. It takes only a few minutes to prepare that way.  If you don’t have one, you can warm the milk slowly in a pot until tiny bubbles form around the outside. Then, pour it slowly into your hot chocolate coffee.

Tips for making coffee with cocoa

If you want to change up how your hot chocolate coffee tastes, here are a few simple variations.

  • You can increase the amount of chocolate you use if you want more of a chocolate taste.
  • You can cut down on the cinnamon if you want less cinnamon.
  • Substitute whipped cream for the frothed milk if you prefer.
  • Add a handful of mini marshmallows instead of frothed milk.

  1. I want the Lively Columbian for me.  I love the classic coffee!  I'd share the flavored ones with a friend who loves them and can rarely afford to buy coffee.

  2. Oh man I love coffee too so it would be hard to pick just one flavor. I love anything caramel or toffee, so the Caramel Drizzle coffee flavor sounds heavenly to me. I finally joined the K-cup bandwagon and love all the many flavors available. Thanks for the giveaway!
