Create a Daily Housework Schedule with Alexa Skill Blueprints

Last Updated on July 21, 2020 by Ellen Christian

Are you looking for a daily housework schedule? I’ve tried so many different ways to keep the house clean that you’d think I have it down pat. But, part of the problem is that I have always tried to do it all by myself. I realize that’s just not possible but I’ve never really found a method that works for getting my family to help with the housework.

Daily Housework Schedule

Having a daily housework schedule is the easiest way for me to keep up with things. That way, I can spend 15 minutes a day rather than 3 hours on the weekend. Since I use my Amazon Echo to keep up with my daily calendar appointments, I really wanted to find a way to stay on top of housework with her help.

It’s also important to me that I find a method that lets my husband help with the housework. But, it needs to be flexible enough for days his pain level doesn’t leave him feeling like he can help as much as he wants to. With the new Alexa Skill Blueprints, I made a daily housework schedule that really works for us both.

If you have an Amazon Echo or have heard about it, you are probably familiar with Skills that let you do lots of fun things from reminding you to drink water to telling you a joke. Alexa Skill Blueprints are a way to make your own skills and really personalize the Amazon Echo for your home. You can use Alexa Skill Blueprints to create a party quiz for the birthday person or create a personalized walk-though of your home for weekend guests.

Alexa Skill Blueprints Categories

There are 6 different categories of Alexa Skill Blueprints you can create:

  1. At Home (chore chart, babysitter, pet sitter, houseguest)
  2. Friends and Family (burns, compliments, family trivia, inspirations)
  3. Fun and Games (trivia, alphabet game)
  4. Learning and Knowledge (facts, flashcards, quiz)
  5. Parties and Occasions (bachelorette, birthday trivia, doubles trouble)
  6. Storyteller (adventure, blanks, fable, fairy tale)

I used the At Home category to create a custom daily housework schedule for Marty and me.  I wasn’t sure what was involved in making an Alexa Skill Blueprint. But, it was so easy and requires no technical knowledge at all. You just set up your Amazon Echo following the directions you received (if you just purchased one). Then, go to the Alexa Skill Blueprints site to create your Alexa Skill Blueprint. This is a different place than you go to for skills.

Alexa Skill Blueprint

You can choose to create your own custom Alexa Skill Blueprint or personalize an existing one. You just type the questions you want your Amazon Echo to recognize and the answers you want her to give. Basically, you are teaching her that when she hears a specific question, she responds with a specific answer.  I really couldn’t believe how easy it was.

Each time I want to use the Alexa Skill Blueprint, I just start by telling Alexa to open the specific Alexa Skill Blueprint I made. Then, by following the series of questions I created, Marty and I can interact with her to find out what we need to do. This really is a fun way to incorporate technology into your home routines. I cannot wait to try a few more Alexa Skill Blueprints to see what else we can do. Even if you don’t choose to make a household routine, it’is a fun way to keep your family connected even if you’re busy or not around at the same time.
