Homemade Screen Cleaner that Really Works!

Everyone has their own cell phone. The kids have laptops & tablets or Kindles. My husband and I have computers and there are several televisions.

With all those screens, I found myself going through a lot of screen cleaner to keep them free of fingerprints. I’ve been searching for a cheap homemade screen cleaner recipe.

The best part is that you can use this for your smartphone, a flat-screen TV, and a laptop. It really does work on all of your electronic devices.

I’m all about making things from scratch when I can but for some reason, I never thought about making my own spray.

After doing some research online, I learned that you shouldn’t use traditional window cleaners on your screens because they may contain ammonia or alcohol – both of which can damage your screen and remove the protective coating.

Did you know that the Wall Street Journal did a study that shows all you really need to clean your screens is distilled water and a microfiber cloth? For monitors that need a bit of extra help, you can use a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and distilled water.

For the areas between your keys on your keyboard, I found that canned air really is the best solution.

Can I use vinegar and water to clean my flat-screen TV?

You betcha. That really is all that you need to clean your electronic devices. But, I would recommend that you use distilled water rather than tap water for the best possible results.

You don’t need an expensive store-bought product when this simple DIY screen cleaner works just as well. I’m all about keeping my grocery budget as low as I can especially when the changes don’t impact the quality of what I’m using.

This spray really does work just as well as the expensive cleaners you buy in your local tech store.

How do you make screen cleaner?

This DIY is simply about combining ingredients together and adding them to a spray bottle. It doesn’t get much easier than that when it comes to making a homemade cleaning recipe.

I make up a small batch each week or two so that I don’t have to keep a large bottle sitting around forever until I use it all. But, it really does cost only pennies to make.

I always use a microfiber cloth when I use this homemade screen cleaner. Actually, I prefer cleaning with microfiber cloths over rags most of the time.

They are much more gentle than a rag. And, you don’t throw them away like you would a paper towel.

That means you are limiting your trash output. I really am not a big fan of disposable paper products for the most part especially when there are easy alternatives available.

How do you make screen cleaner with alcohol?

If you’d prefer to use alcohol rather than vinegar, you can certainly do that. But, it isn’t recommended for frequent use.

Just combine equal amounts of alcohol and water in your spray bottle instead of vinegar and water. You will want to use isopropyl alcohol which you should be able to find at your local drug store or mass retailer.

Honestly. vinegar is cheaper and works just as well if not better. And, when it dries, the vinegar smell disappears.

  1. This is what I use! I use vinegar for everything and must be one of the few people who actually like the smell, lol. I was hoping this post would be for cleaning your window screens (ha, ha). Any tips for those? I live by a freeway (and the Burbank airport!), along with the bus route by my apt, so I have serious smog buildup on my screens. I did get a replacement for the bathroom screen so didn't have to clean that one! Sorry, veered way off topic.
