Ground Venison Stir Fry Recipe

This ground venison stir fry recipe is quick and easy to make. It uses frozen vegetables so you can have a healthy dinner on the table quickly. Or, if you have time, you can definitely use fresh vegetables as well.

Unlike many venison stir fry recipes, this one starts with ground venison. I find that it’s a lot easier to cook venison properly when it’s ground rather than trying to get steak or filets cooked properly. If you have a steak or stew meat, you can certainly use those in place of the ground venison.

If you have a larger piece of venison, you might want to try this Crock Pot Venison Roast.

Is venison healthier than beef?

Yes, technically venison also includes deer, moose, antelope, and caribou. But, when I mention venison, it’s deer meat. We do have moose here in my town, but it’s rare that people hunt them since it’s only allowed on a lottery system.

That said, yes, wild meat like venison tends to be leaner and has a lower fat content. And, venison is also a wonderful source of protein that is high in vitamins and minerals. This means it’s healthier for you.

What type of vegetables should I use?

This recipe uses bagged frozen vegetables to save time. You can choose whatever your family’s favorite type is. Or, if you have a lot of fresh garden produce to use up, you can certainly use that too.

Just a few ideas include:

  • Broccoli
  • Red and green peppers
  • Baby corn on the cob
  • Water chestnuts
  • Green beans

What can I serve ground venison stir fry on?

You can serve this ground venison stir fry recipe over egg noodles if you don’t have a problem with gluten. Now that my daughter is out on her own, my husband and I enjoy pasta occasionally.

But, you can also serve this over your favorite rice. Or, make boiled potatoes and serve it that way. If you’re looking for a low carb option, there’s no reason why you can’t just enjoy a big bowl on its own.

What can I use instead of ground venison?

If you don’t have ground venison, you can use another type of venison. Or, if you don’t have venison at all, you can make this with ground turkey, pork, or beef. Venison is very lean. So, if you use something like pork or beef that has more fat, you will need to drain the fat off.

Or, if you prefer, you can mix half ground beef or half ground pork with your venison. That will add a little bit more fat content to your recipe. And, if you’re serving people who aren’t used to venison, it will make the taste slightly more traditional.

Should you soak deer meat in milk?

You can soak deer meat in milk if you’re concerned about the meat tasting gamey. Deer meat, or any type of wild meat, has a gamey taste because of what they eat. You can soak the deer meat in milk or buttermilk to help cut the wild taste. Just soak the meet in milk or buttermilk. Cover the bowl with a lid. And, keep it in the refrigerator for 12 hours. Drain off the milk and rinse the meat in cold water. And, cook as normal.

Or, if you really enjoy the taste of venison like I do, you can skip this step.
