Gyro Meatloaf Recipe

I had a Gyro years ago when I was traveling and visited a Greek restaurant. I’ve never had any since then because we don’t have any Greek restaurants around me.

I’ve never come across a Greek recipe that looked like something I could accomplish easily that my whole family would enjoy.

When I came across the Gyro meatloaf recipe in The Muffin Tin Cookbook: 200 Fast, Delicious Mini-Pies, Pasta Cups, Gourmet Pockets, Veggie Cakes, and More!, I knew I needed to try it. My family loves meatloaf and this seemed quite easy to make.

What is Gyro meat made of?

Typically, it is made of lamb. But, here in the US, you often see Gyro meatloaf made with beef, chicken, lamb, or a combination of all three.  A classic gyro recipe would probably be all lamb.

Are there breadcrumbs in Gyro meat?

Yes, the breadcrumbs are what hold the meat together and help it retain moisture. Otherwise, the meatloaf would be too dry. This Gyro recipe uses traditional breadcrumbs. However, you could try it with gluten-free or keto options if you want to.

What is gyro seasoning made of?

It typically contains onion, paprika, oregano, parsley, pepper, garlic, thyme, dill, rosemary, coriander, ginger, chives, and salt. Although it will vary.

These were delicious.  We ate them as mini meatloaves, but they could easily be broken up and eaten in a pita pocket with Greek salad for a fun lunch or light dinner.  If you’re looking for an easy Greek recipe that your family will enjoy, Gyro meatloaf is it!

You can use Tzatziki sauce on lots of different things.  Try it with your favorite meats.
