Do you know how to set health goals you can really achieve? Or are you setting yourself up for failure? I have a lot of health goals, but I have started to really think about how realistic a few of them are. I need to make sure I’m not making my health goals too difficult to achieve.

How to Set Health Goals You Can Really Achieve
My goal is to be healthier than I am now and I need to remember that. I’m not training for a triathlon or power lifting 300 pounds in a competition. I’m a mom who wants to be healthier tomorrow than I am today.
By setting realistic goals, I am more likely to stay on track to achieve them. I’m avoiding the word never – as in “I’m never going to eat things that aren’t Paleo.” and always like “I’m always going to go to get at least eight hours sleep a night.” because I know that won’t happen. Here are a few health goals I plan on working on.
Stress less. I don’t have to be perfect. Progress is still progress, even when it’s not perfect. Chamomile tea works wonders when you need to relax, and when that doesn’t work, Ashwaganda is a herb that helps the body manage stress.
Get a good night’s sleep. I struggle with this one and more often than not I find myself falling asleep on the couch instead of in bed. I love watching my favorite TV programs at night so instead of saying I’ll be in bed at 9pm every night. My goal is 10pm instead of midnight. If you struggle with getting a good night’s sleep, you may want to consider taking a liquid melatonin. Melatonin is involved in circadian rhythm and regulating sleep.
Keep on moving. I love walking in the nice weather but not as much in the winter. Instead of saying I’m going to exercise every single day (which I know won’t happen), my goal is to exercise three times a week. Using a pedometer every day will help track my steps and monitor my movements all day. It’s easy to set a realistic daily goal and then just try to beat it a bit more every day.
Get organized. I hate when I forget to take my supplements, but it happens. To stay better organized, I’m using a pill case to organize my entire week at once.
Cook using healthy ingredients. My goal is 100% Paleo but I’m being realistic. I know that once or twice a month, I like to enjoy a slice of pizza or a special dessert. I’ve replaced olive oil with coconut oil for most of my cooking. It’s a great source of MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) that are easily absorbed by your body and a great source of energy for body cells.
Manage my weight. For the most part, my weight is right where I want it to be, give or take five pounds. When I am struggling to avoid snacking, adding in a whey protein is a great way to help you feel full. Whey protein is a complete protein which means it has all of the amino acids. You can add coconut milk to a protein powder, shake and enjoy after your favorite workout.
Recover! After I workout, I need to remember to recover, relax and reward myself. A recovery drink like Critical Aminos XT helps you refuel your body after a workout. Enjoy a glass right after your workout and then treat yourself to a hot bath with lavender essential oils diffusing in the background.

Encourage good health. Don’t beat yourself up after a splurge, we all have them occasionally. One mistake isn’t the end of the world. Make sure you are minimizing the negative results it can have on your digestive system by taking a good quality probiotic to promote digestive and immune health. - 1 scoop of a plant-based protein powder. I used Plnt by Plant Protein powder in chocolate.
- 1 cup of coconut milk, full fat is best - unsweetened
- 1 1/2 tbsp of almond butter
- 1 frozen banana, sliced
Instructions
- Put all the ingredients in a blender or smoothie maker and blend until smooth.
- Enjoy after a workout or any time you need a boost of energy.
