How to Create a Peaceful Bedtime Routine

Last Updated on June 24, 2019 by Ellen Christian

Learning to create a peaceful bedtime routine can make all the difference in how or when you fall asleep. If you’re anything like me, there are some nights you lay there and toss and turn and just cannot fall asleep easily. Maybe you’re worried about your son or rehashing a conflict at work. Or, maybe you just cannot get comfortable, or there is too much noise outside for you to relax comfortably. When I wake up the next morning after one of these nights, I can tell I haven’t slept well. I’m on edge, snappy and easily distracted the next day. Not only is that not fun for me, but it’s also not fun for the rest of the family either. What if I told you that you can create a peaceful bedtime routine that will make it easier for you to fall asleep at night? I’m taking the 101-day sleep journey with Reverie, and product has been provided for this post.

How to Create a Peaceful Bedtime Routine

Of course, one of the most important things to do is to go to bed at a consistent time. If you stay awake until 2 AM one night and then crash at 8 PM the next because you’re exhausted, your body will have a harder time getting into a rhythm. Try to wake up and go to sleep at roughly the same time each day – even on the weekends. Follow these simple tips to create a peaceful bedtime routine:

  • Do something quiet before bed like read a book or listen to peaceful music. Try to avoid things like frightening movies or stimulating video games.
  • Don’t load up on a heavy snack before bed. Enjoy a light snack with a non-caffeinated beverage. My personal favorite is an apple with almond butter and a cup of chamomile tea.
  • Get your husband (or significant other) to give you a back massage before bed. My shoulders get so tight from working on the computer all day that this helps.
  • Don’t focus on the clock. Watching the numbers change on your clock is far from relaxing. Turn the clock away and instead, focus on relaxing.
  • Drift off to sleep by listening to ambient noise or relaxing music. Use an alarm that allows you to wake up gently to these sounds as they get louder rather than a loud, beep from an alarm clock.

I’ve been playing ambient noise through my Elation Surround Sound Bed Speakers that work with my Reverie Sleep System. They attach to the bed and use a wireless connection to your smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth device. I appreciate that they have an Eco Power function that automatically turns off and on. The universal speaker mounts fit almost any bed foundation.

I cannot believe what a difference the Reverie Sleep System is making for my quality of sleep. I’m not waking up several times in the middle of the night, tossing and turning because my back hurts. I can adjust the head or foot of the bed, or use the massage function for a gentle massage before bedtime.

  1. Those sound like great tips just wish my 2 year old would sleep through the night and stop waking up at 2 AM crying. In a few months the baby will be born so there will be more lack of sleep! LOL

  2. I have got to check this out. The older I get, quite often, the harder it is to get to sleep. My grandkids would also love this although at grandma's house all the bedtime rules go out the window. *wink

  3. I need to stick to my bedtime routine or I am miserable the next day. I like to listen to sounds so these speakers would be perfect for me.
