Or, you may want to make a Paleo seafood soup. We enjoy this with a big garden salad for either lunch or a light dinner.

When it comes to fish, I’ll admit to not being a big fan of most types. The one fish that I really enjoy is tilapia. It has a mild flavor and it’s relatively easy to cook.

So, is tilapia Paleo-friendly? It definitely is. It has low-fat content and is high in protein. This makes it a wonderful addition to any Paleo diet. But, keep in mind that this type of fish is not high in Omega-3s like some other types,

Is tilapia farmed?

Most of the tilapia you find in the stores is farmed. It’s an easy fish to farm because it doesn’t mind crowded conditions. If you want wild tilapia, it is found off the coast of Africa.

If you opt for farmed tilapia, keep in mind that any farmed fish is higher in toxins than wild-caught. So, if you can, use wild-caught tilapia in your Paleo tilapia recipes.

Best way to prepare Paleo tilapia

There are lots of different ways that you can serve tilapia and enjoy it if you’re following the Paleo diet.  For me, baking fish is the easiest way to prepare it.

If you want baked tilapia recipes, this Coconut Crusted Tilapia looks like a delicious grain-free option. I love that she used finely shredded coconut in the recipe.

If you’d prefer to grill your tilapia, you can certainly do that as well. This Simple Grilled Tilapia would be suitable for the Paleo diet if you substitute coconut aminos for the soy sauce.

Or, this Fish Coconut Stew would make a hearty soup for dinner. I love that it includes fresh coconut in the stew.

Or, you can make Grilled Tilapia with Tomatoes and Olives.  I have a Paleo Tomato Relish that I often serve with my Paleo tilapia recipes.

What to serve with tilapia

  • If you like having starch with your meal, sweet potato would be a paleo-friendly option.
  • A fresh garden salad is an easy summer side dish when you serve fish.
  • Fresh baby spinach
  • If you have family that is not Paleo eating with you, you can always serve this with tartar sauce.
  • Add a slice of lemon or lime to the plate when you serve it.

How do you store leftovers?

Wrap the cooked tilapia tightly with aluminum foil and store it in the refrigerator. Cooked tilapia will last for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

If you have fresh tilapia, you can store it uncooked in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days. I generally plan to cook my tilapia the day after I purchase it so it’s at its freshest.

If you want to store it for longer than a few days, you can freeze tilapia wrapped tightly in aluminum foil. It will stay good in the freezer for two to three months.

To thaw frozen tilapia, place it on a dish in the refrigerator overnight. Never thaw fish at room temperature.

  1. I followed Paleo for a while.  After instructions from my doctor to INCLUDE carbs (including whole grains which are forbidden in the Paleo lifestyle), I still find myself making Paleo recipes as a base and then slightly modifying them after the fact if necessary for my teenager and myself.  Overall, I've altered my lifestyle so that I find myself in the produce section and meat section, primarily - mirroring Paleo.  I still visit the dairy and grains section, but stray away from processed/boxed dinners, frozen dinners, etc.  There has not been one WHOLLY Paleo recipe that my son has not liked.  I feel better and I love the variety that I've been introduced to from Paleo, especially on the vegetable side.  I bought fresh Artichokes the other day and I'm PROUD!! Granted, I'll be making them with gnocchi, I still feel as though I'm making healthier choices.
