Maple Sugar Muffins

Spring in Vermont means that it’s time to sugar the maple trees. If you’re not sure what that means exactly, you can learn where maple syrup comes from.  Or, check out my visit to the New England Maple Museum.

We own about two acres of mostly wooded property. And, we’re very lucky that our neighbor frequently sugars our trees for us. In return, he sends over a few jars of maple syrup. That means that we have far more maple syrup than we can easily use.

Years ago, I had buttermilk maple muffins at a local restaurant. These maple sugar muffins are quite similar. But, they use sour cream instead which makes them a bit moister.

Now, you’ll see from the topic of the blog post that I have put these muffins with maple syrup desserts. However, don’t feel like you can’t eat these for breakfast. You definitely can! But, with a tiny bit of confectioner’s sugar sifted on top, these make a tasty dessert as well.

  1. What a nice neighbor you have! I must get some real maple syrup for my oatmeal. I like simple, high fiber foods, but maple syrup would make a great topping on most anything.
