How to Make Instant Pot Yogurt in Jars

I bought an Instant Pot a few months ago because I had heard about how amazing this programmable pressure cooker is. I’m not huge on kitchen gadgets, but if it’s easy and saves me both time and money, I’m interested.

I love good yogurt and by good, I mean the non-GMO, antibiotic-free, local grass-fed kind. You can keep the chopped up cookies and high fructose corn syrup. Good yogurt is delicious, but it’s expensive.

Which Instant Pot has a yogurt button?

I use the Blue Tooth Enabled variety, so if you have a different type or different brand, your directions may be slightly different. But this particular style does have a button for it.

I went with the Blue Tooth Enabled version because I can monitor it on my iPhone. It’s handy for those days that you are so busy you forget what time it is. I tend to have a lot of those.

What type of milk is best?

You can use any milk you want to make your Instant Pot yogurt in jars. I use raw milk from a local farm, but you can use whole milk from the store if you’d rather.

I’ve never tried it with milk that wasn’t full fat, so I’m not sure what the results will be if you use low-fat or non-fat milk. When it is completely cool, I add fresh fruit and granola to the top.

You can also stir in homemade jam and nuts or just enjoy it plain with a little bit of honey or maple syrup.

If you want to try something that is dairy-free, this recipe uses almond milk.

How long will this stay good?

Tightly covered, this will stay good in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days just like the type from the grocery store. I wait until I serve it to add the jam, fresh fruit, and granola.

What kind of jars should I use?

So, can you use Mason Jars in an Instant Pot? Yes, they are by far the best choice when you want to make Instant Pot yogurt in jars. They fit in there perfectly and they come with lids.

If you want to use smaller jars, you can. But, you will need to divide the recipe in half. There is only room for 4 jars in your IP. You should not stack them on top of each other.

Plus, they are inexpensive and most people have some laying around the house somewhere already. Using the pot in pot method to make homemade yogurt is by far the simplest method to use.

  1. I had been doing my yogurt this way for a while. I usually do it in 2 batches, but since I now have a smaller pot, we'll see what happens.

  2. I've had my Instant Pot for a little while now. I have enjoyed every recipe that I've made in it so far.

  3. I love my Salton yogurt maker which does the same thing, but I've had it for years. It replaces a Salton yogurt maker that I had as a teen. That one had individual cups you placed in a row, which was OK but I prefer the larger one so I can use my own quart glass jar. It came with a plastic container which I don't use since I prefer glass. I've heard good things about the Instant Pot though so keeping watch for sales.

  4. I have made yogurt in a crockpot before, but I have never even tried to cook anything in an InstantPot. I might have to get one of these for myself since I have been hearing so much about them lately.

  5. I don't have an instant pot, but knowing i could make my own yogurt in one makes it really appealing. Do you have any other favorite things you make in yours?
