I have been trying to figure out how to make mozzarella sticks with less oil after trying the traditional version at a restaurant with my husband. As decadent and amazing as deep fried mozzarella sticks are, the amount of oil used to make them is just too much for me to handle. How to Make Mozzarella Sticks with Less Oil
One of the worst things about traditional mozzarella sticks is that they are deep fried in oil. I received a De’Longhi MultiFry to try out and it has taught me an entirely new way of cooking. MultiFry is an innovative cooking appliance that combines a low-oil fryer with a multicooker. You can do just about everything from fried foods like French fries and mozzarella sticks to fish, stews, and ratatouilles. You can even make pizzas, cakes pies, and more!
The De’Longhi MultiFry allows you to cook with a mixing paddle when you’re making things like fries, stews, sauces, pasta, couscous, etc. But, it is also possible to cook meat, fish, pizzas, cakes, quiches, and more without the mixing paddle. I am all about multi-function kitchen appliances and I love that the MultiFry has so many different uses.
The De’Longhi MultiFry uses a Surround Cooking System that surrounds the food with heat to cook it evenly. The upper heating element and fan deliver uniform heat from the top; the lower heating element delivers heat from the bottom; the removable mixing paddle takes care of stirring the food automatically.
I couldn’t believe how simple it was to make mozzarella sticks with less oil. They didn’t hold their shape well so I think next time I will freeze them longer but they were just as ooey good as the ones I got at the restaurant.
- Mozzarella Cheese (full fat)
- Slice the mozzarella cheese into sticks.
- Dip into egg/milk combination. I only used a tiny bit of milk.
- Roll in breadcrumbs.
- Freeze for about 20 minutes (or longer).
- Add one tablespoon of oil. Remove the paddle
- Close the lid & select power level 2.
- Press the bottom heating element button & press on/off.
- Heat oil for one minute.
- Add the mozzarella sticks in one layer. Close the lid.
- Cook, turning once about 1 minutes on each side.
- Remove and enjoy!
I love how easy this is to use. The bowl you cook in is non-stick and it comes out of the multicooker for easy clean up.
