When I went to BlogHer Food last month, I was able to spend three nights at the Hyatt Regency Austin in Downtown Austin, Texas. Check out my thoughts.

Hyatt Regency Austin: Downtown Austin
This was my first chance to stay a big city hotel and I was excited to see everything that Austin offered. The Hyatt Regency Austin is very conveniently located on Barton Springs and only 8 miles from the Austin Bergstrom International Airport.
The hotel was only about a mile from where BlogHer Food was being held and very close to the entertainment district. That means that I could walk to the conference each day and save money on hiring transportation.
The Hyatt Regency Austin is set on the shores of Lady Bird Lake and you can easily walk to countless restaurants, clubs and popular destinations in downtown Austin.
I had a beautiful view of the river from my room. Each morning, I was able to walk across the bridge as I headed to the conference and enjoy looking at the birds playing in the water. One the way home from the conference each evening, the view of the city’s entertainment district was simply breathtaking.
When I arrived at the Hyatt Regency Austin, what I noticed first was the spacious contemporary feel that the rooms had. The earth tones were very welcoming when I returned to my room each evening.
What do the rooms include?
The room includes down duvets, a 32″ flat screen TV, iHome stereo with iPod® docks, and a marble-clad bathroom with Portico bath products. The room contained the standard coffee maker as well as an ice bucket.
There was an ice machine and soda machine down the hall. There is no refrigerator in the room so both were very welcome with the hot weather in Austin during the summer months.
The entrance of the Hyatt Regency Austin was in the style of an atrium. It was completely open to the top and the colors and exposed wood gave the area a distinctive Texas feel. The lobby has plenty of room for relaxing with separate seating areas both inside and outside on the patio.
What can you do at the Hyatt Downtown Austin?
Of course, there is much more to do than just relaxing at the Hyatt Regency Austin. You can visit Yoga Away or relax on sundeck at the seasonal pool.
There are bikes available for rent or you can enjoy a 10 mile hike-n-bike trail around the lake. I wish that we had the time to enjoy the 24 hour StayFitTM fitness center or take a swim in the outdoor pool or relax in the whirlpool after a long day at the conference.
The hotel also offers a Southwest Bistro restaurant and there is a sushi bar in the lobby area.
The convenient location makes the Hyatt Regency Austin an ideal hotel for busienss travelers. The hotel offers 27,000 feet of flexible meeting space and a 17th floor Foothills Ballroom.
There is WiFi available (a must have for any business traveler) however there is an additional charge for it. There are a variety of room choices from standard to suite.
The standard double room that I stayed in was roomy, comfortable, and very well kept.
If you find yourself in the Austin area, I would definitely recommend a stay at the Hyatt Regency Austin.
