How to Make Homemade Spa Treatments to Relax
I love treating myself to a little pampering, but I do worry about some of the ingredients in products I purchase from the store. I hear so much about parabens, phthalates, and sodium lauryl sulfate that I’m quite sure those aren’t things I want to use any more than I have to.
It can be difficult (and expensive) to find beauty products that are natural to pamper myself with so I have begun to make some of my homemade spa treatments instead.
Kitchen spa recipes
Making homemade spa treatments doesn’t have to be expensive. Many of the ingredients you need are things that you’ll already have at home or things that can be purchased inexpensively at the grocery store.
Mayonnaise hair treatment
Mayonnaise (not salad dressing) – Massage into your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and wait three minutes. Shampoo to remove. The mayonnaise will moisturize your hair and make it shiny.
Whiten your nails with lemon
Lemon juice – Soak your fingers in lemon juice for five minutes to whiten yellow nails.
Cucumber eye treatment
Place a cucumber slice on each eye. Cucumbers have ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and caffeic acid which help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling.
Moisturize with olive oil
Put a bit on a cotton ball and use it to remove your eye makeup. It does an excellent job & doesn’t dry out your skin.
Soothe sunburn
Greek yogurt soothes irritated sunburned skin. Just smooth on plain, unflavored Greek yogurt and it will help with the pain and the redness.
Treat split ends
Smooth coconut oil onto the ends of your wet hair to help with split ends. Shampoo to remove.
Soften your skin
Add one cup of powdered skim milk to your running bath water to help soften your skin.
Bring out highlights
Brew up a cup of tea and rinse your hair with it. Wait 15 minutes and rinse out. Chamomile will bring out golden highlights. Use black tea for a brunette. Choose a raspberry tea for auburn or red hair.
Improve cellulite
Use cooled coffee grounds as a scrub wherever you have cellulite. The caffeine in the coffee grounds has a temporary shrinking effect on the cellulite.
Hair rinse
Rinse your hair well with vinegar to remove shampoo and styling product build up. Then rinse away the vinegar.
Relax
Epsom salts help draw toxins out of your body and can be very relaxing. Just add half a cup to your bath water and relax.
Using these homemade spa treatments to pamper yourself will not only help keep your budget under control, but it will also give you peace of mind knowing that what you’re putting on your skin isn’t loaded with chemicals.
You won’t need a special shelf in the bathroom for all your beauty and spa products, and you won’t have to worry about spending a lot of money only to find out you don’t like the product.
These homemade spa treatments don’t time a lot of time to prepare or require a separate trip to the store.
